For winter use, I'm looking for an oil heater for a JD4100, preferably one that's just inserted into the oil dipstick location. I've heard JD makes one but the local dealer was unfamiliar with it and didn't seem able to find a reference to one either. All suggestions appreciated.Scott

I'm not familiar with a dipstick style heater, but I know that Deere makes a block heater that threads into the block in place of a threaded plug (mine was on the left side). I put one on my 855. It keeps the entire engine warm including oil, fuel, and anti-freeze. Seems like it was about $50. ....

Had our dealer install the "block" heater option before taking delivery. Can't remember the cost, but I'm quite sure it was under $50. The block heater replaces one of the brass freeze-out plugs in the block, warming the coolant. We had an old GMC truck with a (V8)366 in which we used a dipstick heater.
OMO, but it didn't impress me. We then tried a magnetic oil pan heater, which worked pretty well. Again, OMO, but the block heater is the way to go. I've used it quite a bit in my Dodge Cummins and think its well worth it. ....
